Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an important economic phenomenon, with broad implications on corporations, and all stakeholders. CSR can be perceived as involving the utilization and mobilization of resources available with the corporates in recognizing social issues and evolving, devising and enforcing activities in order to redress the same. This Article collates, structures, and integrates scattered pieces of economic theories in novel ways, in order to shed light on fundamental questions concerning CSR. This study attempts to intertwine the economic perspective of CSR with the legal regime in India, and particularly emphasizes upon the objectives of a business concern from the economic lens, the efficiency argument, welfare implications, and game theory, amongst others. Set forth herein below is an economic analysis of CSR with the aid of the aforementioned economic tools.
