Abstract

The principle of Gender Equality is revered in the Constitution of India. With a view to  maintain and execute the Constitutional Mandate, the State has enacted different laws and taken measures proposed to guarantee equal rights, check social discrimination and different types of violence and barbarities. Despite the fact that women might be casualties of any of the general violations, for example, 'Murder', 'Theft', 'Cheating', etc. but the crimes which are directed towards women particularly i.e. Gender specific Crimes are portrayed as 'Crimes against Women'. Different new enactments have been brought and corrections have been made in existing laws with a view to deal with these violations adequately.
