The absence of clear legal frameworks governing live-in relationships has created a challenging landscape for partners, impacting issues related to property, financial support, and child custody. Drawing inspiration from the legal frameworks in developed nations, this article makes a compelling case for the urgent need to craft legislation that addresses the unique needs and rights of individuals in live-in relationships. It examines the international landscape and provides insights for a hypothetical legislative framework that could bridge the legal gap in India. While recognizing the potential challenges and concerns, the article underscores the importance of initiating a constructive dialogue on the topic, with a view to protecting the rights and interests of those engaged in live-in relationships.
